Thoughts on Kodak Gold

Back in April, I spent a day in New York City, and decided to bring along the Olympus Mju II with a roll of Kodak Gold. When shooting color negative, I normally shoot with Portra. However, with prices still high I thought it would be good to finally try out Kodak Gold to save a few dollars. At first, I was skeptical because I did not always like the Kodak Gold vibes. I’m sold now.

The vibrant colors with the warm tones is great for snapshots with a point and shoot. Gold combined with dreary cold days in the city makes for a perfect combination, with the vibrant tones and neutral color reproduction brings out the subtle aspects in a scene. Kodak Gold brings out the depth and texture in shadows and highlights, creating compelling and atmospheric images. I’ll definitely shoot this film again, but in better conditions and on the AE-1.

With all that said, enjoy a few of the shots in the gallery below.
